Cellulite is a condition of which majority of us are not aware. Studies have proven that this is a connective tissue and fatty tissue condition. It is considered a civilization disease, which affects even ca. 80 per cent of women.
The cellulite symptom is uneven skin, usually appearing on the hips, knees, shank, buttocks and stomach. The disease affects both slim and overweight women but hardly ever affects men.
Cellulite is very often contributed to by hormones, hence the orange peel syndrome affects women in puberty, pregnancy and before menopause; these are times when the number of fat cells increases.
Women most exposed to the orange peel syndrome are:
• those that have little movement, live a sedentary life, since the physical activity naturally helps eliminate fat and water surplus from the body
• overweight women, since excess weight increases the size of fat cells
• suffering from hormonal disorder — surplus of some hormones causes water retention in the body and triggers a chain reaction described above
• consuming a lot of sweets and fast-foods, which are calorie-rich foods, carbohydrate bombs
• with genetic predisposition passed by the mother
• wearing tight-fitting clothing and high heels, since these constrict circulation
• smoking and drinking a lot of coffee, which are toxins for the body
• eating large amounts of salt, which leads to edema
• enjoying hot bath and sunbathing, which affect blood circulation
